Incantation – Dirges of Elysium
Incantation… one of the first extreme metal bands that I’ve started listening to… one of the first bands that I ever attended a gig as well. This band will always have a special place in my heart. Even though for quite a while now, I like Black Metal more than Death, of course I still enjoy listening to a good Death Metal album. And many other Metal genres as well, otherwise it might become boring.
The band is indeed an institution of American Death Metal, fighting against all the odds, keeping their music alive and real, and by real, I mean what they like to, not what has become trendy, several line-up changes, so many problems that many would have given up a long time ago, but the band is here, a living entity for twenty five years!
After two years, when Incantation released another brutal album named Vanquish in Vengeance, they’re back in 2014 with Dirges of Elysium. What can you expect from this release? Pure Incantation, going fiercer and fiercer, faster and faster, it doesn’t matter how long they’ve been on the road, they’re not slowing down anything, especially their passion for Death Metal. Brutal, diverse, heavy and monstrous, Dirges of Elysium makes you want to bang your head insanely. This is really a fantastic album and describing it doesn’t make justice to Dirges of Elysium, you need to listen to it. If you like Extreme Metal, you’ll not be disappointed at all.
You have obviously realized how much I love the band and this album, I don’t have to summarize anything here, but there’s one more aspect that I’d like you to have in mind when it comes to Incantation. John McEntee makes his living out of this band and his label (no, it’s not some huge label) and not only that, but his wife (of the band Funerus) needed medical treatment that coasted a lot of money. The underground has helped, but we can help them as well, by attending the gigs and buying their albums.
Until next time!
