Moro Moro Land – Through
Hailing from Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, Moro Moro Land was founded in 2010 to create Atmospheric/ Post-Metal/ Blackened Hardcore. So far, there are four releases by the Russians, being “Through” the latest one, which came to light in 2015, as well as two-splits and one self-titled record. The band has toured around Europe in countries such as Russia, Ukraine, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, France, Switzerland, Italy as well as Lithuania. I can imagine how great must be one of their gigs.
Now for the new work itself, what I hear is a mature band, with strong musicianship and creativity. Whenever you think that you’ll listen to an album that blends so many styles, such as Hardcore, Black Metal, Post and Atmospheric elements as well as some Sludge/ Crust influences, you might think that it can be a mess. But, auspiciously, it’s quite the contraire, as, in my modest view, Moro Moro Land handled this with expertise and capability.
I feel that there’s some sort of melancholy in this album, some anger, while being, concurrently, passion and ardor is present in “Through”. Profound, vicious and unclean, the music is replete of tremolos, blast-beats, while being also at times slow and hypnotic. The guitars dominate the mix, being indeed outstanding, exuding powerful punishing riffs, sounding crunchy and, in a way, passing a vile, ferocious mood. When it comes to the vocals, performed with excellence, they’re deep, more of a “sludgish” style. In my humble opinion, all sounds well-composed and inspiring. One more thing, there’s a Nirvana cover, I don’t really like this band, but Moro Moro Land’s version and performance were highly satisfactory for me. As you can see, I’m utterly pleased with “Through”.
As usual, I always like to mention one word or two about the production, just to give you an idea about it, and, yes, “Through” is well produced, sounding a bit dirt, as it’s more suitable for the music style that Moro Moro Land plays. My friends, this is a band that deserves our attention, so, I urge you all to legally check their music and the band’s official Bandcamp page and, if you happen to like what you heard, I ask of you to support and promote Moro Moro Land in any way that is possible for you.
Until next time.
