United Kingdom’s Vacivus will be releasing a new EP next month, July, titled “Rite of Ascension”. Featuring 5 tracks dealing with the Occult, Death & Transcendence, is the pinnacle of worship at the temple of void. Founded in 2013, it was named Dawn of Chaos before, from the year 2000 up to 2013, this Death Metal act has already released a full-length album in 2014 a demo and now the aforementioned EP.

“Rite of Ascension” has impressed me with its brutality, effectiveness and hypnotic aura. The music is very distinguished and aggressive, maintaining a vicious atmosphere throughout the whole compositions, sounding almost inhuman. The guitar work is simply magnificent, much like a merciless attack to your ears. It is indeed outstanding. Classical crushing riffs are presented in this invigorated release, crafting a masterful work of blackened death metal art. The technicality is also to be praised as well.

Tempos vary as well, from sheer savagery, with high speed playing, to slow, mesmerizing, enticing parts that build up a doomy, creepy mood. The vocals are blasphemous, deep growls, harsh shrieks, transmitting violence, irritation and violence. Of course, this whole package can only result in an organized chaos, with a claustrophobic “ambience”, carrying a lot of power and monumental savagery.

Much like the music, the drumming also features massive variation, very tight, ferocious and highly competent. And not forgetting the bass either, finely executed and perfectly layered in the guitars as well. In fact, my cherished readers, I cannot really find any flaws in “Rite of Ascension”. This is a solid and dark release, which oozes talent and an epic feel, while being “bleak”, in a positive way, as described, the pinnacle of worship at the temple of void.

When it comes to the album’s production, a top-notch work in this aspect of the release. All sounds well recorded and mixed, but not too clean, otherwise, in my personal and modest view, it would not fit the genre, but clear enough to be enjoyed by the band’s admirers. I can assure you, one more time, that this is truly an extraordinary work that deserves to be heard by anyone slightly interested in qualitative death metal music. If you feel that this is the kind of release that you would enjoy, I humbly ask you to check “Rite of Ascension”. There are always legal ways to do this and, if you like what you heard, I urge you to find a way to support and/ or promote Vacivus in any way that is possible for you.
