Malignant Mist – Celestial Doom

Back to the land of fire and ice, one of the most beautiful and interesting countries in the world, Iceland, with the band Malignant Mist. Founded in the year 2013 by members of bands such Severed Crotch, Ophidian I, Plastic Gods, Atrum and Gruesome Glory, these Technical Death Metallers have just released an EP named “Celestial Doom”. As I got into this genre once again, I was looking forward to hear their contribution to this musical style.

First how I feel about the album, always, then a description of their music, since this is the “tradition” here on this website. There’s a very dense atmosphere, dark, vigorous and resilient. Abrasive and heavy, this is much like the old-school Technical Death Metal albums that we grew up with, with real instruments, real sounding, raw in its honesty and genuine. I admit that I am impressed with these musicians, as I truly believe that this genre is very hard to create something unique, something that actually differs you from the other bands.

As for the music, there are great riffs, breakouts, blast-beats, the vocals are very deep and intense, the bass work is awesome and fortunately clearly audible, all created with a high level of calculation and execution, with precision and, obviously, technicality. Everything is very tight, rhythmic and aggressive. The instruments, the songs, the musicality sound very energetic and the deep guitars are just awesome.

And the album’s production is fine, as I mentioned before, all is audible, including the bass (yeah, I love bass) and there’s nothing really to be observed here. I close my thoughts by inviting you all, my cherish readers (and I mean it, I cherish each and every one of my readers on this website) to give Malignant Mist a try and if you like their music, find a way to support them. As I always say, if you can’t purchase anything now, there are other ways to help a band, spreading the word about them is one of the most effective. And that’s all I ask from you.

Take care.
