Nightbringer – Ego Dominus Tuus
Nightbringer is a Black Metal band from the United States, Colorado to be more precise. Founded in the year 1999, this band has already released six splits, two demos, one compilation and four full-length albums, the latest being in 2014 and named “Ego Dominus Tuus”. Nightbringer states that the band was created as a conduit for the contemplations on the mysteries of death as it is understood in the tradition of the art magical.
First, as usual, what I felt from the album, how the album feels, what I could sense from the atmosphere of “Ego Dominus Tuus”. The music sounds occult, mystical, that it’s dwelling with the deepest occultism practices, it’s hard to explain. There’s this aura of allurement, black art, much like an incantation. And with this atmosphere, it consequently also sounds enigmatic, dark and otherworld. It’s really a journey into the obscure, the unknown. There are also some theatrical elements and they really turn Nightbringer’s music even more interesting than it already is. Their music is sinister, malevolent and perverse, but never using clichés to craft their art.
As for the music itself, it’s very dynamic, with many changes of pace, incredible guitar work, vocals that sound like a tortured soul from hell, but never losing its majesty, elegance and grandiosity. I believe I can hear some classical music elements as well in this release. The songs, even though are extreme, are also beautiful and ethereal. Some bands that come to my mind while listening to “Ego Dominus Tuus” are old Dark Funeral, Emperor and Deathspell Omega. I guess that those aren’t poor influences at all. But that doesn’t mean that Nightbringer simply sounds like the mentioned bands, they created their style, their own path; influences are everywhere in all bands.
And now the production paragraph… very polished and clean, enriching the experience of the listener. I have to say, I’m in love with their music, I truly find this an extraordinary work. So, my dear friends, please, check this band and if you like their hymns, I beg you to find a way to support them, to help them, even if you can purchase an album, you can always do something to spread the word about their work.
Have a good day.
